How To Treat A Toddlers Fever 2018

Wednesday around 3:00pm I got a call from Sweet T’s school that she wasn’t feeling well. Her teacher told me she was currently in the “boo room” (where they treat all injuries at her school) which made me even more nervous. The administrative personnel then let me know that her fever was 103.5! I nearly screamed. I’d never heard or seen her temperature rise that high. So I sprung into action and did these 3 things to treat her fever:

1. Alternate Tylenol and Motrin Every 4-6 hours

This was recommended by Sweet T’s pediatrician. When she was a bit younger, I was only using Tylenol. I didn’t want to give her all types of medicines while she was so young. But her pediatrician assured me that it was fine to alternate Motrin and Tylenol when her fever spiked. Plus, I find that her fever is shorter when I use this method.

2. Coat VaporRub on Baby’s Feet Then Add Socks Before Bedtime

Listen, I pulled this one out of the “old folks/home remedies” hat. My mom, aunts, and other relatives told me it would work and it does, to me. I also rub a tiny bit on her chest and ears for good measure.  But I only do this a few times during her fever.

3. Use Forehead Thermometer For Quickness and Convenience

Sweet T’s pediatrician assured me that rectal temperature or taken orally is the most accurate temperature. But those ways are so comfortable for me or for her. So I make sure to keep a forehead thermometer with us during those times she’s not feeling well. I’d also recommend investing in a good one!

4. Prepare A Lukewarm Bath With Peppermint Oil

After you have given your toddler a dose of medicine, I’d suggest preparing a lukewarm bath with a few drops of peppermint oil. With the amazing properties of peppermint oil while

5. Call A Pediatrician Questions

I’m not a doctor and Google will have you confused with all of the suggestions (even this blog post!) So make sure you have your doctor on speed dial for any questions or concerns you have with your child.
