I remember going to my first baby shower and toddler birthday party and just buying the necessities that I knew every mom would need. It was literally something I went into Target and grabbed off of the end caps. I knew that if it was on the end cap, it was definitely popular and needed.

But then when I had Sweet T and she started to receive gifts for her birthday, I did not want to see another TOY. If you don’t learn anything from this post, please remember to NOT buy another toy for someone else’s child. The parents will praise you for your thoughtfulness!

Instead, here are some great ideas:

1. Books

Books have to be the most important gift to a child. For one, it allows the parents to be able to read to their children for their growth and development. Also, the longevity of the item goes a long way with the amount of money you spend. This is the best option.

2. Flash Cards

I can count how many times I need flashcards and didn’t have them. To a point where I bought so many at once because I was frustrated with not have the right ones. Get these if you can – Letter Only Alphabet Flash Cards, Picture Alphabet Cards, Number Cards, Shape Flash Cards, and Sight Word Flash Cards.

3. Paint Markers

This is also a lifesaver that comes in handy on those days where parents need to keep their little ones busy or just for a rainy day. Sweet T is the Craft Princess so she loves everything that has to do with using her hands and getting her creative juices out. She loves to paint, but she has been particularly loving Chalkola Chalk Markers! They are odor-free and wet wipe erasable which makes them perfect for toddlers. Buy these here and use code SWEETT10 for 10% off!

4. Pajamas

If you have to buy clothing, let it be pajamas! Here’s the thing about pajamas – us mamas already have bought the outfits picked and the clothing we want our baby to wear. But we really forget about buying nightwear!

5. Shoes

Listen, kid’s feet grow so fast! Like lightning fast! To a point that mamas really are questioning their parenting skills when their kids grow haha! But seriously, I’ve had to get myself together for not having shoes on deck for when Sweet T’s feet didn’t fit into her favorite shoes. Ask Moms what size their child wears and then size up as many times as you like! Trust me they won’t be disappointed.
