Hey hey! I know it’s been a long time but I’m back! For this series, I will be finally going through the journey of updating my home. If you follow me on Instagram (which you should be by now!), you know I’ve been wanting to give my home a bit of an upgrade and I figured the best time to do it is during #quarantine.
Five years ago, when we first walked into our home, while someone else was still living in it, the walls were literally BROWN. Like… CRAP BROWN! I was truly horrified and couldn’t believe someone would be living with such a color on the walls. The only thing in the house that was updated was the floors, but that was it! It had old drapings that looked like a haunted house. I knew this was going to take years of work and design to make this into a livable home.

What was fascinating about the home, was how inviting and open it was despite the awful wall color. I could tell the owners didn’t understand what type of home they had, and I could tell they didn’t plan to stay there for a long time anyway. They lived in the home only for convenience and nothing more.
If you saw my post on Instagram of a quick snapshot of my dining room as soon as you walk through the door, I’ve literally transformed it. From the paint on the walls, the table, and the table decor, it looks like a different house. They were using the room as a second sitting area which had two old brown couches and a TV on a table. I forgot to mention that a lot of the walls in the house were painted as if they were trying to paint a mural. It was really odd. Anyway, I knew if we got the house it would be the FIRST thing we did.

Once, we repainted the walls, it was instantly a different house! We only updated the bottom floor before moving in. If you can imagine, I’m STILL not completely done with decorating my dining room. I want to change and add a few things, to make it complete. Here’s a snapshot of what I’d love to add to my dining room from Birch Lane.
Adding a new chandelier over the table, with a gray or white buffet for my pretty dishes (that we NEVER use), with a touch of accents pieces like lamps, napkins, napkin rings, and a fancy rug, would make it COMPLETE. I also really want to add a white chair rail on the wall to go around the room, but I think I could live without it.
Now that we have almost one room completed, it’s time to FINALLY move to the next spaces! I’ll be sharing our home updates and previous (awful) pictures of our home before we purchased it.

What do you think of this update? What would you differently? Please let me know in the comments! If you want amazing decor for your home, check out Birch Lane!
See you soon! x
