What I Use On My Natural Hair

Today’s post is all about my hair! I’ve been debating on where in my journey I should start this because there’s so much information to give. But I think I’ll just tell you what products I use on my hair and a couple of pictures of my growth over the past couple of years.

Step 1:  Pre-Poo Routine

I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t pre-poo. With my thick and curly hair, it’s a must to get tangles and knots out before washing. I’ve learned that my hair has to be moisturized and detangled before I could think about cleaning it. I section my hair into four sections. Then I add all my pre-poo ingredients to a spray bottle and spray it in each section. I gently sometimes not so gently brush or comb each section until there are no more knots. My brush/comb should pass through my hair without any restraint. Below is a snap shot of the products that I use for this step.

Step 2: Washing & Conditioning

After my pre-poo, I get in the shower and wash each section once and apply my conditioner immediately after. I’ve had a bad experience with shampoo (my own fault though). I stripped my hair without moisturizing it first. Terrible thing! Anyway, I make sure that when I put my conditioner in my hair, I leave a little in. Basically, I use it as a leave-in conditioner. I love the Tresemme Naturals Conditioner because it gives the perfect amount of “slip” to get through my thick curls. It’s my holy grail product.

Step 3: Moisturize & Seal

Immediately after conditioning my hair, I make sure that I have some type of oil to seal in the moisture. I coat my hair with oil and make sure each strand is saturated in it. This steps allows the water to be “sealed” in by the oil. This will keep my hair moisturized longer without having to apply more water within a couple of days. After this step, I go ahead and style in a wash-and-go or two strand twist.
