My Incredible Encounter with Bleu

Sad blogger face

So the reason I’m looking sad in this photo is because I want you all to get how I felt yesterday after taking Tucker for a walk. Just remember the face because I wore my hair in a ponytail, no makeup, a black t-shirt, and stretch pants.

I had no energy at work yesterday, so when I got home, I decided to change clothes and  take Tucker for a walk around the block from our apartments. We live near a nice area and it’s a perfect neighborhood, but can be a bit busy during 5:00 pm. Tucker was enjoying himself smelling new smells, marking every chance he got (which I hate) and was interested in everything he saw.

As we got about half way around the block, I saw this beautiful blue dog charge its way towards us. The dog was sprinting to Tucker and I with no hesitation of stopping. I immediately starting screaming at the dog, “STOP!!” The dog completely ignored my aggression and ran straight to Tucker to greet him. I felt relief knowing that she was friendly and just wanted to play.

The blue Italian greyhound proceeded to play with Tucker, sniffed my shoes, nudged me and bolted in the opposite direction. I have never seen a dog that ran so FAST. She was so lean and such a beautiful blue grey color. She had no time for us and seem as though she had an agenda which led to her running away from us as fast as she could.

I was coming closer to a busy intersection and I heard her charging behind me. She scared a few people as they were sitting on their porches because it was such a beautiful day out. I assured them that she wouldn’t bite, although I really didn’t know. So I began to try to stop her from the careless running. Of course I had to stop a few cars from moving so they wouldn’t hit her, but she was oblivious and continued to enjoy the breeze and the liberation she knew she had stolen. I’m screaming to the top of my lungs, “SIT! COME HERE!! STOP!” Her ear didn’t budge to hear me. She was free. She ignored me and wanted to run.

At this point she’s passed me, so I stop and scream at her to come back and she runs out in traffic. As I watch her, I’m screaming louder, “GET OUT OF THE STREET!!” She completely ignores me and all of a sudden, her left rear side is hit by a truck and launchers her in the median.

I’m crying. Wait… I’m more like hysterical. The tears are flowing and I can’t stop screaming. I’m down on my knees hoping she’s ok. I get up and run to the median to see the damage and she slowly wobbles with her leg not touching the ground and slumps on the grass. She’s breathing which I’m thankful for, but she shows now pain. No whimpering or anything. She showed no sign of regret. She truly has the heart of a lion.

As I reached for her pink collar, I turned over her charm and saw “BLEU” with a phone number and preceded to calm myself as I talked to her parents on the phone.

After a few hours, her parents called to tell me that she broke her hip but she is doing fine. #prayforbleu

I told you this story to say, that this whole debacle made me realize something about myself and my life dreams (odd right?). Bleu’s life lesson taught me that becoming FEARLESS will create circumstances that might live you heartbroken or hurt, but you will NEVER regret the feeling of doing exactly what you know your heart yearns for. Knowing that FREEDOM is what you’ve always wanted. Freedom to be yourself. Freedom to do what you truly love. The willingness to at least try. And to enjoy EVERY moment.

I really try to be a better me than I was yesterday. And I’m still far from where I want to be. I hope this encourages you to do what makes you happy and to truly live your dreams. Regardless of your broken heart, live your brilliant life!
